First diesel vehicle in India that cannot be simply push started

The Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV)- Allwyn Nissan “Cabstar” was the first diesel vehicle in the country that needed a key to be turned in the ignition to start it. Before that, you could start any diesel vehicle by simply pushing it and shifting into 2nd gear once it got rolling.

This was a significant theft deterrent but the feature wasn’t much liked. It added cost making the Cabstar more expensive among the 4 LCVs launched in the 80s - DCM Toyota, Swaraj Mazda, Eicher Mitsubishi “Canter”, and the Cabstar. It was also the smallest of the four.
